Working with Jesmonite

Jesmonite is a contemporary casting material made from a combination of natural gypsum powders and a water-based liquid. This blend creates a smooth, stone-like finish that’s lightweight yet durable — perfect for sculptural homewares designed to be used and enjoyed every day.

We’re drawn to Jesmonite not only for its aesthetic qualities, but also for its more considered approach to making. It’s solvent-free, low in VOCs and mixed with water rather than harsh chemicals, making it a more environmentally conscious choice compared to traditional resin-based materials.

Each Formed Living piece is individually cast by hand in small batches. This process allows us to work slowly and intentionally, shaping organic forms and subtle details that feel calm, earthy and timeless.

Because Jesmonite is poured and set by hand, no two pieces are ever exactly the same. Gentle variations in colour, marbling and texture are a natural part of the material and the making process. Small air pockets, soft edges or surface markings may occur — these are not flaws, but a quiet celebration of the handmade nature of each piece.

Jesmonite gives us the freedom to create sculptural, design-led pieces that feel grounded and tactile — homewares that sit beautifully within your interior and bring a sense of warmth, balance and individuality to everyday living.
